There's not much more for me to say about last night's Question Time that I didn't say on my Twitter feed, but I'd like to restate my love for Bonnie Greer. Holy shit that woman is amazing.

Turns out, Griffin's father never fought in WWII - he fitted radios to Spitfires. Also, having a parent who was drafted into the military =/= not being a Nazi.

An image to keep in mind, whenever Griffin claims that he's "not a Nazi" and to have "no links to fascist organisation":

In other news: someone at the Co-op is clearly a True Blood fan. They were playing the theme tune over the PA when I was in there earlier. XD

Analgesic Dresden Dolls - Lonesome Organist Rapes Page Turner
It's never nice to finish a day on Angry God Stuff (well, I think it is, but as we all know I thrive on conflict) so have some pictures of the three pumpkins I carved today, designs courtesy of the wonderful ZombiePumpkins.com.

Happy Jack!

Creepy Jack!

Otis!

These were pretty fun to make. Gutting pumpkins is really, really disgusting, though, and they smell vile. I am still amazed that Americans consider the pumpkin to be an edible object. As far as I am concerned, it is the least edible member of the squash family, a set of foodstuffs I am in any case very much not fond of. I don't seem to be able to get the smell out of my hands, which is pretty gross.

Living in a courtyard of priests + creepy pumpkins = FUN TIMES around the corner, methinks. I think it'd be better if we had the weird breeder family over the way instead of the CRAZY TALKATIVE but quite nice new people, but whatev. I bet the Dean will freak out. Bwahahaha~

My final thought for tonight is that everyone should listen to Metsatöll, and someone should buy me a kantele and some bagpipes. And preferably an accordion, too, because I played one for the first time today (and left my bag in the shop FFFFFFF but thankfully it didn't get nicked) and liked it VERY MUCHLY. If I have some job money saved up by Christmas I may get one~

Analgesic BtVS - "You want to go to the utility closet and make out?"
Yes yes I'm sorry I've not posted in...*checks* three weeks. In all fairness, I've...uh, well, okay, no, I've actually got no excuse, I'm just really lazy. Fuck off.

*winning smile*

I'm not going to bother writing up Bloodstock, because - da da-da daaa! - Lorn and I are talking about it on the first edition of our upcoming podcast, details to follow when we're less lazy. Eheheheh. In any case, saves me writing a stupidly long post here.

I'm home alone right now - parents are in Liverpool Saturday - Tuesday, which is very agreeable. I've been watching Buffy, eating cookie dough icecream, and doing Tredoku. This is also what I'll do for five years as a student. WOOP WOOP.

I've been correcting the observations made about Britain in Buffy. Eheheh. By shouting at the screen. Um.

IT'S MATHS NOT MATH FFS AS IN MATHEMATICS ARE YOU SOME SPECIAL KIND OF STUPID.

Yeah, so. Um. What else has happened in the past three weeks? Umm. IDK. I have discovered that there's basically no dignified way to finish eating a Magnum. You know when you've eaten most of it, and you've just got that kind of shelf of chocolate at the bottom with some icecream on top? How do you eat that? If you eat the chocolate bit the icecream'll fall off, but it's hard to eat the icecream because you basically end up deepthroating the stick. OH, THE DILEMMA. This must be how Obama feels in the situation room.

I'd really forgotten how much I love Buffy. The show, not the character. Every time a character I recognise makes a first appearance I'm like YEEEE JONATHAN/SPIKE/DRUSILLA/OZ YEEEE. I'm glad no-one's home, frankly, because they'd probably have had me sectioned by now. I'd not blame 'em.

I've been getting quite a lot of reading done, which is nice. I've finished off Susan Jacoby's "The Age of American Unreason," which was actually very interesting. I didn't agree with everything she said - I do think that videogames and the internet constitute culture, and I'm pretty sure "liking dead Greeks who thought about stuff" doesn't automatically translate to "being smart and educated." I'm reasonably fond of several dead thinky-Greeks but I don't think they're the be all and end all of intellect or culture. I'm not really of a mood to write a proper response to the book right now - and what I just said makes it sound as if I enjoyed it far less than I actually did, because aside from maybe the last chapter I agreed with everything she wrote and enjoyed the way she wrote it. In any case, it's an excellent book, and totally worth reading. Therefore, buy!

I'll stop here, for fear of this turning into one of those distressingly frequent stream-of-consciousness catch-up posts. I'll leave you with my enduring unease at the fact that we have Waitrose baked beans in our cupboard. I'm not sure why we've got a more expensive, horrendously upper-middle-class, and yet inferior-tasting product rather than our standard but it's a little creepy. It's not like Heinz is unavailable all of a sudden?

Analgesic West Wing - "You are a cow rustler, Mrs Landingham."
It occurs to me that, in my post about my trip to London to see a Prom, I neglected actually to mention the Prom. How remiss of me.

Basically all I have to say is more eloquently expressed in this five-star review, though the reviewer neglects to mention the utter awfulness of the Casken piece. It was, as far as I could tell, essentially random notes. As if someone had taken the early stages of a monkeys-and-typewriters experiment and applied the principle to music. But the point must be made that a) the conductor made it absolutely the best collection of random notes it could have been and b) the Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky more than made up for the Casken's failings. The finale of the Stravinsky, in particular, sent shivers down my spine.

The fact, however, that the name of the antagonist in The Firebird is Koschei, which was also the Master's true name when he was on Gallifrey, makes me want to write a Doctor/Master story based on the myth. (Doctor as Ivan, Master as Koschei - duh - various companions as the Princesses, either Romana or Jack as the pretty one, and probably an OC as the Firebird.)

If only I could write. Ho hum.

In other news, I'm increasingly worried about the Eton course, had a horrible bout of abdominal migraine this morning (which left me retching, crying, and nearly unconscious at various points) from which I am still recovering. But I am watching my West Wing DVDs, so I'm surprisingly happy.

Analgesic Amanda Palmer - Astronaut
I was somewhat surprised, fifteen minutes ago, to learn that the Campaign to Save Ianto Jones has not only been reported on by the BBC (a rare thing for any fandom-related endeavour), but in fact made it into the top 10 most read articles on the BBC News website. I confess myself impressed.

Not that I think the campaign will do any good - like Russell T Davies has ever given a shit what the fans think - but, since all the money's going to Children In Need, it's at least a nice way to raise some money for charity.

Couple of issues with the article, though: did they have to choose more or less the least flattering picture ever for the article? Could they not have used one of the Children of Earth or season two promo photos, rather than one of him having a breakdown in Cyberwoman? Also, the use of the word "baddies" to describe the 456 (which they misspelt, which is quite impressive with a number) may be accurate but it furthers the worryingly inaccurate perception of Torchwood as a children's show, which it most definitely is not.

To get my opinion out of the way: I was fucking devastated when Ianto died, as he was more or less my favourite television character ever. I have been a part of the Torchwood fandom since a month before the show started airing (and a Doctor Who fan all my life), and as a queer rights/anti-defamation campaigner I was damn happy to see a queer relationship as not only the main relationship on a mainstream TV show but portrayed as something other than either completely heteronormative or miserably dysfunctional. With this death, one of the most visible and positive queer characters on television (who came in at number seven on AfterElton.com's list of the best queer Sci-Fi characters, with Jack as number one) has been dropped, as has one of the most visible and positive queer relationships. Not only was the death a blow for queer representation on TV, it was a cheap ploy for "drama" and "heartbreak" in a series that had quite enough of that, thank you, with two major characters dying at the end of the previous season (and I had plenty to say about that at the time) and the main character having to kill his own grandchild in the next episode. It was both unnecessary and exploitative and it pissed me off majorly. However, I accept that it's the writers' decision to make, not mine or any other fan's, and that caring about a fictional character to that extent is quite stupid.

tl;dr: Ianto is dead, lots of people are sad about it, I am also sad and quite pissed off, but it's not going to change anything as he will stay dead because Uncle Rusty hates the people who have made him rich.

Analgesic Kampfar - Ravenheart
Title: Unrelated Incidents
Fandom: Torchwood
Pairing: Mostly Suzie Costello/Toshiko Sato
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers: Everything involving Suzie.
Summary: I did the song drabble meme!
Notes: I hate writing drabbles that aren't exactly 100 words but this meme doesn't exactly allow for meticulous re-wording. So they're mostly around 120 words each. None of them are related to each other, by the way.

The Rules:
1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Put iTunes or equivalent media player on random.
3. For each song that plays, write something related to the theme you picked inspired by the song. You have only the time frame of the song: no planning beforehand: you start when it starts, and no lingering afterward; once the song is over, you stop writing. (No fair skipping songs either; you have to take what comes by chance!)
4. Do 5 of these, then post.

What we have here is the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing’s users. As in, they sit on the shelf to make you look smart or well-rounded. Bold the ones you've read, underline the ones you read for school, italicize the ones you started but didn't finish. Bold and italicize the ones you read but totally failed to absorb.

Long list o' books )

Oh my god this is embarrasing I am so badly read. What I should do is take this list and read my way through it, shouldn't I?

I mean, I'm not completely ignorant. I think. I have a vague-to-good idea/understanding of the plots of most of these, I've just...never got around to reading them. Which, for a sixteen-year-old, is probably acceptable but still. I don't like using my age as excuse (except to get student-price admission).

What's more is we've got most of these, I think. We've certainly got Life of Pi, Lés Miserables (well, I'm familiar with the musical, not the book), and so on. Hmm. I see new reading material in the cards...

What's your favourite TV network?
Ooh, Ye Olde BBC, I think. At least, I'm besotted with BBC3 (TORCHWOOD AND DOCTOR WHO REPEATS YAYY). But then again...Channel 4 is good because they have More4, which I ADORE, and ITV has ITV3 which has the Jeeves and Wooster reruns, and then Five has House...ooer.
THE INTERNET. There we go. =P

If you could create your own channel, what would it be?
METALHEAD LESBIAN PORN, 24/7.

Er.

Maybe not, then. I think perhaps a proper, actual, REAL metal channel. Like, extreme metal. Folk, black, prog, power...AND LOTSANDLOTS OF BAL-SAGOTH. Eeeeee. <3

What TV show did you watch as a child, that you wish they would bring back?
INSEKTORS OH MY GOD. I used to love that show SO MUCH and the theme music was amazing - there's a YouTube clip of it over here - and, interestingly, it has the distinction of being the first fully-animated children's show on TV. The US version was utter shite, though - the jokes were changed to, y'know, not funny versions, and they changed all the names and, most importantly, THE PROTAGONIST NO LONGER SOUNDED LIKE DAMON ALBARN. What blasphemy is this??

What show have you always hated, and wonder why they ever made such a dumb show?
BIG BROTHER oh my god. It's awful. It's just...appalling. Car-crash TV at its worst, and what's really terrible is that the first season was apparently touted as a legitimate sociological experiment. MY ARSE. It was a load of crazy people in a house, for the viewing pleasure of the voyeuristic public. Ugh.

What TV show's seasons would you buy on DVD?
Torchwood! If I wasn't perpetually broke I would totally get that on DVD. And House. And Metalocalypse. And the West Wing...problem being is that all seven seasons go for something like £120. Owww.

Analgesic Bal-Sagoth - The Fallen Kingdoms of the Abyssal Plain
A'ight, this was posted as a Tamora Pierce fandom meme, but I'm gonna do it for Torchwood instead, since that's my main fandom.

Name six ships you like:
1) Jack/Ianto
2) Tosh/Suzie
3) Jack/John
4) Tosh/Mary
5) Andy/Ianto
6) Jack/"Real" Jack

Three ships you used to like but don’t like anymore:
7) Gwen/Tosh
8) Tosh/Owen
9) Jack/Owen

Three ships in your various fandoms you don’t ship:
10) Jack/Gwen
11) Gwen/Owen
12) Gwen/Ianto

Two ships you are curious about but haven’t actually started shipping:
13) Owen/Ianto
14) Emily/Alice

1. Why do you dislike #11 so much?
I have a deep and all-pervading loathing of Gwen, and I don't like Owen much either. Of course, it's a canon ship - gah - and even then it was Gwen being a twat, cheating on her boyfriend, and generally not a healthy relationship in any way at all. Didn't last long, either.

2. Who is someone you know that ships #13?
Lady Paperclip! And she writes it brilliantly.

3. What would be your ideal scenario for couple #3?
Oooooh, the five years/two weeks they spent trapped in that time loop! "I was a good wife!" There is just so much one can write about those two <3

4. What is your favourite episode/book for #1? Try to pick just one.
Ohhh man there are so many! I think...perhaps the retcon scene in "Adam". The forehead kiss is just...beautiful. <3
(HAH I bet everyone thought I was going to choose "Adrift", didn't they? NYERRR.)

5. How long have you been following couple #6?
Errr, since the - single D= - episode in which was established as canon and then, tragically, abandoned foreverandever. DDDD=

6. What’s the story with #8? What made you stop liking them/caring?
Ack. It's not so much that I actively don't ship them, it's just that it's gotten irritating, now. Especially now they're both dead (*hysterical sobbing* WE MISS YOU TOSH), everyone's doing this "together in death" bollocks. I always felt sorry for Tosh, since Owen was such a bastard to her, and she really needed to get someone who wasn't a) a psychotic alien serial killer or b) a soldier from WWI who was going to die the day they finally got together. See? Poor girl. <3

7. Which ship do you prefer: #2 or #4?
Tosh/Suzie, totally! It's my OTP. <3

8. You have the power to make one ship nonexistent. Choose from #10 or #12.
JACK/GWEN. SRSLY. It's played up FAR TOO MUCH in the show which gets in the way both of Jack/Ianto and also of RHYYYYYSSSS who we love so much omg. <3
Stupid Gwen. NO-ONE LOVES YOU except your poor long-suffering husband. D=

9. What interests you about #14?
SEXY VICTORIAN ALIEN-HUNTING LESBIANS. What's not to like? =D

10. When did you stop liking #7?
My growing hatred for Gwen, and I realised I could pair Tosh with Suzie and still have the wonderfulness of femmeslash and the wonderfulness of Tosh without the annoyingness of Gwen. XD

11. Did your waning interest in #9 kill your interest in the fandom?
Not at all! I never shipped it that much and my god as long as Jack/Ianto lives I will NEVER leave this fandom.

12. What’s a song that reminds you of #5?
I don't really have any, I suppose. It'd be a song about...I dunno, being brilliant but ignored by people you know, being unappreciated...I'm not sure if I've got anything like that.

13. Which of these ships do you love the most?
Suzie/Tosh is my OTP, but Jack/Ianto is a) canon and b) the one I read the most and c) far more realistic. XD

14. Which do you dislike the most?
Jack/Gwen *grr*

15. If you could have any of these two pairings double-date, who would it be?
Jack/Ianto and Tosh/Suzie, totally! Torchwood team outing...just, y'know, without Owen? XD

16. Have #2 kissed yet? Elaborate if you’d like.
*whine* NO. Canon sort of establishes that ship as impossible, what with Mary being Tosh's "first lesbian shag" (yes, that's a direct quote), but NEVERTHELESS I MAINTAIN THEY HAD KINKY LESBIAN SEXINGS. Because godDAMN that would be hot. =DDD

17. Did #4 have a happy ending? If the show hasn’t ended yet, do you think a happy ending is likely?
Hahahahaha, no! O HAI TOSH I'M A SEXY ALIEN LESBIAN COME TO SEDUCE YOU INTO GETTING ME INTO TORCHWOOD SO I CAN GO HOME OH ALSO DID I MENTION I'M A SERIAL KILLER WHO WOULD LIKE TO EAT YOUR HEART? =B

18. What would make you start shipping #14?
More screentime with those two, man! Torchwood 1900s here I come!

19. If only one could happen, which would you prefer — #2 or #6?
TOTALLY TOSH/SUZIE. Hottest thing ever omg. <3

20. You have the power to decide the fate of #10. What happens to them?
Gwen dies a painful, humiliating and length death. Jack shrugs, recruits Martha, and goes off to shag Ianto in the archives. =3

DECEMBER 22ND. DECEMBER THE TWENTY MOTHERFUCKING SECOND.

Jesus Christ.

OKAY. Life update!

I did...alright on my January modules. Got an A in Sociology and a high B in Psychology. Not bad. Got a C in my English Language coursework, cementing the fact that I HATE that fucking subject. And no comments about the people who teach it me. I mean, right - the other group (there are two) have different teachers and everyone in that group LOVES the subject, thinks it's the best thing since sliced cheese. And we've got the teachers we have and everyone in our group hates it. What gives?

So, that aside. I am now single (D=) but we're on good terms at the moment so, I dunno, that's both bad and good. I don't know. It's bad when we're together but she's so miserable she won't even look at me, but it's also a bit bad when we're not together - so I'm miserable - but we can actually have a conversation. I dunno. Anyway, we're gonna meet up at some point in the holiday. I need to giver her Coraline back (OMG SO AMAZING I LOVE THAT BOOK SRSLY.), and also I just like seeing her. XD

Talking of seeing - haha - we're getting every sodding window in the ENTIRE HOUSE replaced. Oh godddds. Which means I've got to move everything away from the windows in both of my rooms, which is going to be a NIGHTMARE.

Oh, that reminds me! NEW COMPUTER! Yeah, the old desktop finally keeled over when the graphics card went, and we figured it was a better idea just to buy a new one instead of shelling out for a new graphics card PLUS the RAM and other stuff the old one needed. So, shiny new computer! It's an Acer - like my laptop - and graphite-coloured and very pretty. I've now got hacks of Photoshop CS3 and Sibelius 4 (I've stuck with 4 because the opening music is pretty SHUT UP XD) which ACTUALLY RUN ON THIS COMPUTER omg. I'm still getting used to not having to shut down every other program when I want to use Photoshop. =D

The new one's called Baldr. God of resurrection and so on, haha. <3

Although I'm pretty sure Weapon of Mass Datastorage never came into contact with mistletoe. XD

So, yes. Back to the windows. We've dismantled my desk - the one my father built for me about seven, eight years ago out of wardrobe doors, haha - because, frankly, it was nothing more than yet another surface to put shit on, as is pretty much any piece of furniture in my room, including the bed, sofa and, er, floor. Oh dear. So we got rid of that, and I've hoovered the floor (oh my god so much hair ugh *shudder*), so that half of my room's looking a lot cleaner. Something of a relief, I feel.

Let's see. What else?

The hunt for a new dog isn't really progressing. We keep going "Oh, we must go down to the RSPCA shelter..." and then forgetting. But I think we're going on Friday, which is good. There was a BEAUTIFUL Lurcher there the time I went with my mother, called...Ella, I think. She was gorgeous. But the turnover is so quick there, there wasn't a hope of us getting her. The problem is, whenever we go all the cute ones are reserved already, haha. But I refuse even to consider getting another pedigree, considering both the price - oh dear GODS - and the problems with inbreeding, which was what gave Lucy her dicky heart in the first place. Also, I want to call the new dog Wagner, if it doesn't already have a name. This is not a negotiable point.

Negotiating...that makes me think of West Wing, and in the sphere of TV programs I waste my life watching is TORCHWOOD oh my merciful gods! So...much...Jack/Ianto. Seriously! Never thought I'd see the day and it is a BEAUTIFUL day oh yes. Ahem. I mean, not that I'm attracted to either of them in the proper sense but, well, aesthetic appreciation, yeah? Plus, a gay main couple - the sodding protagonist of the show! - on a mainstream TV show. That is SO SIGNIFICANT and so wonderful. Really makes me happy. =D

(Of course, I'd be even happier if it were, y'know, Tosh and not-dead Suzie. But one can only dream...)

I'm a wee bit worried about Ianto's, um, wellbeing in the series finale, though. I mean, we know that he doesn't DIE - or, at least, I hope not - because Gareth David-Lloyd has confirmed that Ianto will return for season 3. But still - all we see of him in the preview is some kind of explosion behind him and him falling forwards. Not encouraging. I really, REALLY hope Tosh gets out unscathed because, well, we all know how much I love Tosh. Toshhhhh~
I don't care if Owen dies. I think he'd be the one most likely to who I actually want to die? I mean, if he was actually decapitated or recieved some sort of serious head trauma then I think he'd be down permenantly, yeah? Or they could euthanise him with formalyehyde if he got too badly hurt. I mean, I don't hate him enough really to wish him dead with the same fervour that I want Gwen dead, mutilated and her grave danced upon by Weevils, but I wouldn't be upset if he died. I would be DEVASTATED if Ianto died, or Tosh. Jack can't die, of course, and they won't kill Gwen because she's - sigh - the female lead. Unfortunately.

I'm a bit sad at the lack of lesbians in this season. I mean, there was Tosh and Mary in S1, plus that Gwen-and-Carys bit of eyecandy, but there's been literally nothing in S2. Which, well, miffs me a little because it's not equality if it's not chicks too. I'm PHENOMENALLY happy to see a gay couple as the main couple in a mainstream TV show but they've exchanged that for, really, any other queer content in the show. At least, that I can think of.

SO. What else, in my mess of a life?

Er.

Music-wise! That's a good thing to talk about, I think.

Had my Grade 7 Singing exam a couple of weeks back, and I actually think it went really well. That's pretty much a first for me, as I generally come out of music exams going "OH GODS KILL ME NOW". But no, I think it went well, especially since the sight singing was PISS EASY and that was the bit I was really worried about. So that's okay then.

Bands I'm enjoying right now - ALESTORM oh wowww they are so amazing! Scottish fucking Pirate Metal! Like Turisas. From Scotland. For Jack Sparrow. SERIOUSLY. They are sodding incredible. Check 'em out, seriously.

Aaalso. I've been listening to the Sweeney Todd soundtrack a lot recently. Yeah, yeah, I know, Tim Burton wankery, but I really enjoy bits of it, MMKAY? Sondheim's actually a very good composer, especially with songs like "A Little Priest" and "Pretty Women" - which is a WONDERFUL duet even if Alan Rickman does have the most bizarre, swallowed voice ever. Not to say that it's BAD, exactly, just...odd. Haha. XD

However, the girl who plays Johanna can NOT sing. She is utterly dreadful. Screeching sodding banshee. I have no idea why she was cast, given that the rest of the cast - big-name parts and unknowns alike - actually have surprisingly good sets of pipes on 'em. I mean, Helena Bonham Carter slips into breathiness occasionally but can be wonderful when she's doing well. The kid who plays Toby is pretty good, and I'm more impressed with Johnny Depp than I thought I'd be. Sacha Baron Cohen's falsetto is, frankly, legendary. XD

I've also gotten back into Ensiferum's glorious Victory Songs. I went through an infatuation with it when it first came out and had to force myself to stop listening to it for days on end lest I get really sick of it, but I've sunk back into screaming out the chorus to "Blood is the Price of Glory" again. Not that that's a bad thing or anything. =DD

What else?

Does anything interesting happen in my life?

Probably not.

Oh, I've gotten into papercrafts! Yeah, god, I know, so geeky. But I've made a papercraft N64 logo, and I've got templates for all sorts of things, like a Weighted Companion Cube (on that note, I CRIED when I had to incinerate mine, and still tear up thinking about it *sob*), a Gun Turret from Portal (DEAR GODS their voices are creepy), Kirby, Hello Kitty, the Triforce, a Wii and a SNES. Pretty spiffy.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll think of more things to say at some point but I expect I'll be booted upstairs soon.

So - ciao, motherfuckers.

Analgesic Bal-Sagoth - At The Altar Of The Dreaming Gods
Title: Aeons (for 1sentence)
Pairing: Alex/Piers
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers: Both games, the ending; the whole shebang.
Summary: Another 1sentence entry, using theme set Epsilon.
Notes: This is set in a sort of post-game concept of mine; Around a century after the ending of Golden Sun, Alex manages to escape from Mount Aleph, still with - most of - the power of the Golden Sun, though this is soon regulated by the Wise One, much to Alex's chagrin. He is also, due to the power he still holds, technically immortal, barring accidents. Piers, being Lemurian, will live long after the rest of the characters in Golden Sun have died; I imagine Alex finds him and persuades him to travel with him, a situation that continues for many centuries, as Weyard changes beyond recognition (I think Yallam becomes a huge city, whilst Madra and Alhalfra grow and eventually wage war on each other). At some point Piers may be called to become King of Lemuria after Hydros' death. I may write some of this at some point, possibly, but for now this is just based in that universe.
Also - I use the name Piers. I am aware of the OBHL movement to call him Picard, and as catchy as the "Pow Pow Picard!" catchphrase may be (and it is, indeed, damn catchy; I have taken to shouting it at random intervals) I am used to calling him Piers, so Piers he shall stay in my writing.

Analgesic Kamelot - Up Through The Ashes
OH DEAR GODS NO.

Why. WHY???

*headdesk*

GODDAMMIT RUSTY. You give us the worst companion ever - and I mean, worse than Peri worst - and then you BRING HER BACK?

Oh gods.

I HATE ROSE SO MUCH. SO VERYVERY MUCH.

Why have they not brought back the GOOD companions? Like Romana? Nyssa? Leela? ADRIC, even?

WHAT ABOUT JAMIE? *sob*

FUCKITY FUCK.

Rose is just so ANNOYING. Whiny and incompetent and stupid and BLONDE and chavvy and OVER-EMOTIONAL and UGH.

Not to mention badly acted.

And if they continue the TRUU-LUFF-4EVA shit I will fucking kill someone.

HE LOVES THEM ALL, DAMMIT.

And (half-human or not), I can't see him in a long-lasting (or anything LIKE it) relationship with anyone who isn't a Time Lord/Lady. I mean, I'm not a hetshipper (DUH) in the slightest but I'd rather see him with Romana than with a normal human.

(I think Jack's possibly excepted from the 'human' clause, because, well, he's sort of not anymore, is he? Not really. I mean, the Doctor's big issue has always been that he can't spend a significant - to him - amount of time with anyone mortal because their lives are so short compared to his, but that problem's just not there with Jack. And I think they do have an...understanding, shall we say, just because they're both so old, now, and have seen so much and suffered so much. That forms bonds.)

Honestly, I don't think I can see the Doctor with anyone but the Master at this point. They just don't work without each other - I mean, they've said that themselves, haven't they? They need each other on a very deep level, even more so now they're the last Time Lords in existance (oh yeah, like anyone belives the Master's really gone. Come on.)

I'm glad we know that Jack's coming back - from John Barrowman's own mouth have we heard it, so I'm not going to doubt that. And that does make me happy because they have such wonderful banter, aside from anything else. And the Doctor needs someone who won't go away. A part-time companion'll be good for him, I think.

On that note, yay, Martha. <3

I still don't like the Donna thing. I just...she was okay-ish, I suppose, for the Christmas Special, but she's so overpowering. All shout-y and bleh. I don't know how that'll work...they'll have to tone her down to make it work, and then that's betraying the character.

And I don't like Catherine Tate much, anyway. She's not as funny as she/people think she is. The "Am I bovvered?" sketch was really only funny in the slighest the first time, and even then only just. And that Comic Relief skit was rubbish. "Bovveréd," indeed. HONESTLY.

Happy about Martha on Torchwood. Happy about, y'know, more Torchwood in general. VERY happy about more Jack/Ianto on Torchwood. Not so happy about new-female-love-interest-for-Ianto. Not so happy about not the slightest hint of femmeslash yet. Not happy about Gwen still being alive. D=

WHERE'S MYFANWY? DX

Another thing - Martha spent the ENTIRE of Season 29 being made to feel like she was inferior to Rose (which is the biggest bullshit I've ever heard, because Martha actually has a BRAIN. WOWIE.), which was a terrible deal for her and was no doubt part of why she left the TARDIS of her own volition in the end (good girl! Keep your life! Be awesome!). Rose coming back canNOT make that any better and will in fact make it worse. Obviously the Doctor won't be ambivalent towards her return but if they write it in a big DOCTOR/ROSE OTP way I'll be majorly pissed off. That's not fair towards Martha - or Jack, or Donna, or anyone, really - and the last thing the Doctor needs is more emoing when she buggers off again.

Oh ye gods, I hope she gets killed properly this time. I really, really do.

What I don't understand is why the goddamn fandom loves Rose so much. I just don't get it! She had no redeeming qualities - we didn't even get much T&A! - and to be honest I was expecting the whole fandom to rise up in arms against whoever the first companion of the new series was. It just seemed like the sort of thing that'd happen...
And yet every single reaction post linked to in who_daily on this whole sordid affair has been "YAY ROSE". And I just don't understand why! How can people not hate this girl? HOW?

...

This cannot end well.

(And why have we not had a Leela-type companion yet, may I ask? We've not had one single 'fighter' companion over three seasons (plus another two confirmed). That's a bit shit, isn't it?)

Con Report: FuyuCon
Oct. 22nd, 2007 | 03:11 pm

Condition [mood icon] tired
Analgesic Aerith no Theme (Piano Version) - Nobuo Uematsu
HAHAH OMG FuyuCon was awesome. <33

Note that this report is sadly photo-less, because I don't have a camera at the moment and Rin's not sent me the pictures she took. I'll post those when I get hold of them.

As a virgin anime congoer (and believe me, there is a BIG difference between Doctor Who cons and anime cons...) I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. How many people would be cosplaying? What would the panels be like? How many glomps could I expect in a two-day event?

Ooooh, boy. My back is so sore right now, you have no idea. I think that answers the last question. XD

SO. Let's start from the beginning.

Maya came home on the bus with me on Friday, and Robin showed up a couple of hours after. We watched Amadeus (because it's fucking brilliant, okay? And we'd all seen Spirited Away and the only other anime I had on DVD with me was Elfen Lied, which is too long to watch in one night). Only then I had to finish my Kou-san cosplay - mooouuu, that was haaaard, because there aren't any colour pictures of him other than this one and that's only a torso shot. Sheesh. - which ended up taking me 'til like 1:30 in the freaking morning. BAH.

ANYWAY. So, we got up at 5:30 on Saturday morning - oh dear GODS, NEVER AGAIN - and Maya and Robin had to shower, and then we ran around like crazy things getting into cosplay. I was intending to use a combination of a two-sizes-too-small sports bra and a lumbar support belt to bind, because the bandages everyone says to use aren't available in the UK, but the lumbar support belt's velcro just wasn't up to the task, so I ended up with sort of A-cup boobs, which worked alright - the top was quite baggy, anyway. Maya went as Yotsuba from Yotsuba&! (I had to shorten her shorts the night before, because they were too long. Damn, everyone comes to the textiles student for this sort of stuff. D=) and Robin ended up not cosplaying the first day because he's a lazy sonofabitch. XD

So, we head out the door at 7:10, catch the 7:16 bus into Nottingham, get there at 8, and have NO IDEA where the Brittania hotel was. We had the vague idea it was somewhere near Forbidden Planet, so we headed in that direction, and...spent half-an-hour wandering around in circles, basically. It was FREEZING, Maya was wearing SHORTS and I was in a very thin cheong-sam, so you can guess just how enjoyagble that was. Plus I had flip-flops on, and I'd forgotten just how torturous those are on your legs. Ugh.

And we found Rin-chan! Yaaay! She was at the top of the road and there were lots of hugs and squees and whatnot. Awewsomesauce. <3

So, anyway, we find the place by looking through a window and seeing a sign saying "Britannia Hotel". Woohoo!
So we register - Robin had to wait a bit, 'cause he had to pay at the site and the treasurer wasn't there yet - got our conbadges and conpacks - omg, free manga! Half of us got Tokyopop Sneaks 2007, half the Rising Stars of Manga book - and a fucking adorable little Hello Kitty charm, plus the conbook - aaaargh. TYPOS EVERYWHERE - and the schedule and so on. We sat for a little bit on the window outside VR3, checking out the stuff in the conbags, then we went into the lobby and met up with Tommah.

TOMMAH IS AWESOME. He'd never believe me if he read this but he is so sweet, and so lovely, and so kickass. But he also has absoluately zero self-esteem, and so needs lots of hugs, which I provided. And preferably a boyfriend, too. We squeed over the yaoi together. And oh, believe me, there was a lot of it. O_O =D
I kept - in fact, KEEP - having this weird compulsion to call Tommah Mookie. It's not that he bears any resemblance whatsoever to the Mookie of Dominic Deegan, because he doesn't; the name just somehow seems to suit him. WTF?

So, anyway, we went to get breakfast - we'd not had any, and neither had Tommah - at Costa. Mmmmm, pain au chocolat and coke, haha.

Back at the hotel, we stuck our heads round the door to VR3 and, lo and behold (and contradictory to the schedule, I might add), Noir was showing! So we watched a bit of that, then went into what I tend to think of as the Room O' Otakus - the room sort-of in the center of everything, with the bar to one side and VR1 and VR2 to the other side. And in this room was what was known as the Scribble Scroll - a huge-ass roll of paper and some markers and pencils, on which people drew stuff. So I drew a crappy head-shot saying "MOOSE DISAPPROVES. NEEDS MOAR YURI" and a Cyanide and Happiness tribute of the last panel of this comic. There was a Reno cosplayer - OMG <333333 - there who drew the most amazing headshot of Cloud EVER. The bastard. D=
(He was actually really nice, and let us take his photo. He was a bloody brillant cosplayer, too. XD)

SO ANYWAY we slipped into VH2 and watched the second episode of Escaflowne - heee XD) - and then we went for lunch. Mmmm, lunch. It was really amusing seeing all these cosplayers - largely Naruto and Inuyasha - wandering out into the square, not to mention the reactions of the normal people, haha! Also, I got up the courage to tell the Ritsuka (Eeeee! <33333) cosplayer I loved his outfit, and he let us take a photo of him, too. He was wearing a shirt that said "Uke seeking Seme. Apply within.", which made us roll around in hysterics for a bit. XD

Then Robin and Rin went off for lunch and Tommah, Maya and I went to Primark. Yes, Primark. Maya needed a white shirt for her L cosplay the next day (yay!) so I put up with it, just about. Then we got the bus to Maya's house - ugh, I hate Nottingham buses, I really do - so we could get some stuff, like Maya's cloak that she made in year 9 Textiles which I needed for my Uriel cosplay the next day (also yay!). We watched some weird shit on YouTube, like this Death Note video set to a Songs To Wear Pants To Song, this brilliant Death Note video synched to Monty Python's Argument Clinic sketch, this also brilliant Death Note video synched to the Monty Python and the Holy Grail Camelot song, and this Rowan Atkinson Hell skit.
Also Skammich.com, which is full of incredibly random awesomeness.

ANYWAY.

So we got the bus back to Nottingham - did I mention I hate Nottingham buses? - and got some lunch at Greggs - ohhh, I love Greggs so much - and headed back to the con just in time for the Ah! my Goddess movie. AAAAHAHAH. This led to the running joke of just how fucking hilarious the name Belldandy is, especially with the intonation Robin uses. Also, Skulldoom of Skulldonia! and Urdu, the only black woman in the world, apparently.
Ohh, I love injokes. XD

We hung around in the bar for the next hour 'cause two of the video rooms were closed on account of setting up the Maquerade, and none of us wanted to watch New Fist of the North Star.

Next was the Masquerade. HAH. I love masquerades and this one was sodding brilliant. There was, let's see, a Kagome/Inuyasha/Miroku/Sesshoumaru orgy, some Naruto/Sasuke, a guy in a brilliant Record of Lodos Wars cosplay (and I must remember to send that to Lain, 'cause he used to adore that show), a lovely Ed cosplayer (to whom I shouted "Drink more milk!" and made Reno laugh. Yay!), an AMAZING Red XIII, and two Team Rocket Grunts, who were pressured into reciting the Team Rocket song. Haha. <33
Rin got loads of photos of that, so I'll upload full coverage when I get my grubby mitts on 'em.

We left after that, 'cause the next thing was the Charity Auction and then the J-pop Party and the AMV Disco, which...nahh. We were tired, anyway. XD

So Maya and Robin and I got the bus back, and watched C.R.A.Z.Y (which is WONDERFUL and a movie everyone should watch <33) and Cello, which was so fucking clichéd it was hysterical, and led to another injoke - "Do you know this woman?" "...I didn't kill her!", and we had jacket potatos and fun. <3

We got up quite a bit later the next day, 'cause the first bloody bus was at 9:16 - fuck you, Pathfinder, fuck you - so we got to the con about 10-ish. I was cosplaying Uriel, complete with black jeans, shirt, waistcoat, boots, cloak and neck-scars, plus a white mask to serve as Persona. Maya was L from Death Note - and a BRILLIANT L, at that - Robin was Setsuna (I did the cheek-barcode and cross tattoo on him in marker pen. XD), and when we met up with Rin she was cosplaying Kira. Funfun. <33

Apparenty Tommah had been to the Hentai panel. I wanted to got the Yaoi and Yuri one, but they were both at sort of 1 in the morning, so...yeah, maybe not. XD

We went into VR2 for the second half of the AMVs - mostly set to GODAWFUL music, and there was an awful lot of Kingdom Hearts for some reason. O_O. Then we watched a bit of the Ah! My Goddess dub, which was...lol, wut? Urd was white. XD

I wasn't going to watch the Ranma film, 'cause I wanted to go to the cosplay panel which started half-way through, but I ended up watching the whole movie. D'ohhh. It made me laugh loads, though. I'd forgotten how silly Ranma can get. XD

Oooh, it was at about this point that I saw the Ritsuka cosplayer again. Except that on Sunday he was Ritsuka in RESTRAINTS. *fans self*
I mean, seriously, for a guy? Wowie.
Also. Ritsuka. Eeeeeee <3333333!

Rin and Robin went off to the Chinese Supermarket for pocky at this point, and we couldn't find them again until the Omake ages after. XD

We watched the first two episodes of Full Metal Panic!, which is also quite amusing, if sort of excruciating at times. I really like Kurz - he makes me think of Gojyo, which is very endearing. =D

Then Tommah and Maya and I hung around in the bar for a bit, me with my "WILL GIVE HUGS FOR YURI" sign. I got hugs, but no yuri. Maybe it was because I was in competition with the Naruto Free Hugs guy. Aww. D=
We also went up to Floor 10 in the Lift o' Doom - haha, Tommah <3 - and I got Loveless 6 and Wild Adpter 3 and - YAAAAAY - the first Kazuka Minekura artbook, Salty Dog 1. EEE. It's so beautiful! I need to find a translation of it, though, 'cause there are loads of words. D=
And we were hungry, so we bought some food - a bowl o' chips and some cheesy garlic bread - and drew stuff and fangirled the cosplayers, who were - YET AGAIN - acting out yaoi threesomes. =D
Inuyasha/Miroku/Sesshoumaru OTP yes/yes?
It helped that most of the cosplayers were hot chicks. =D
We found a couple of Naruto cosplayers having buttsecks in an alcove, too. XD

And then there was the Omake! Well, uh, sort of. It was really short - only four skits, in fact. That said, one of them was Gaara singing the Lumberjack Song - HAAAAHAHA - another was Lulu from Final Fantasy X and Ed, which was hysterical. I was witness to the girl who cosplayed Ed taking off the silver gaffer tape she'd used as an automail later, and...the screams! The terrible screams! D=

So we hung around for a while 'cause they were setting up for the closing ceremony, and decided our cosplays for next time (if there is one. D=):
I'm gonna be Ukoku Sanzo (in full Sanzo robes, pluss bunny plushie), Tommah is gonna be Hughes (eee! <33) and Maya'll be Ryuichi from Gravitation. Yaaay!

The ceremony itself was okay, by the standards of closing ceremonies, which a small cons are never exactly spectacular. But we got Pucca charms thrown into the audience - and I caught one! - and all in all it was pretty fun.

That was short, too, though, so we had to wait around for half an hour or so until my mum got there. During that time, the Yuri Sign got, um, yuri-fied?
Take a look.
Umm, yes.

So, eventually, my mother showed up - and so did Rin's uncle Nick, who is just lovely <33 - and we bid our goodbyes to Tommah and set off home. Maya lent me 1-4 of Yotsuba&! - yay! - and Rin gave me Maurice back, and I gave her Elfen Lied back, so WE'RE ALL HAPPY.

And we made it home just in time for West Wing, too. <3

Just for kicks, here's a list of all the cosplayers I can remember:

Gaara
Miroku
Kagome

Ganked from screwthedaisies.

Five fictional characters that I want on my side when the apocalypse comes.

1. Kadaj (Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children) Mother issues aside, as long as he comes with a box of Materia, he can summon up HUGEASS MONSTER THINGS. How is that in any way not useful?

2. Suzie Costello (Torchwood) Fucking, for the purpose of. (Ru~de! ;D) And, um, to complete the psychosis section of the tour.

3. Dr Gregory House (um, House) Because everyone needs snark and a doctor is always useful.

4. Dr James Wilson (also House) Because why have one doctor when you can have two AND UST along with it? I mean, really.

5. Maes Hughes (Fullmetal Alchemist) WELL COME ON PEOPLE. Hughes is super-spiffy awesome Y/Y. And I bet he's a decent shot with a pistol. Maybe Ed's automail would be more useful, strictly speaking, but he's not nearly as fabulous. (Or as camp. =D)

So I figured, what with the continuing fiasco over at LJ - oh, and I do love being safe from that shit over here, oh yes. <3 - with Six Apart and censorship and PR0NZ (oh noez!!!1!11eleventyone) and so on, not to mention the Harry Potter slashart-of-dubious-legality, it was about time for me to post my opinionated musings.

I'm not as read up on the whole thing as I could be, probably, but I watch various comms (such as fandom_flies) and I've read the press releases as they've come out and quite a lot of the comments and whatever's come up on fanficrants and whatever a few other people have posted and anyway let's get to the point already, Moose:

Oh, bloody bollocking hell, this is a right mess, isn't it?

It's not just that I object to any censorship, of any kind, regardless of "artistic or literary merit" or, to be honest, any other factor, and it's not just that as a devoted and long-time member of fandom it galls me to the highest degree to see people that I know and respect - well, no, I don't look at Snarry fanart (I'm not in the HP fandom, for one thing) but some of the victims are in some of my fandoms - being victimised to this degree.

What really, really worries me is that 6A don't actually evaluate the validity of the abuse reports they recieve - some, possibly even many of them were made by militant anti-gay groups and there is a pervading sense of anti-slash here, and it's not just because slashart is so pervasive in fandom. The targeting of my people - and yes, that's tribalistic and maybe a wee bit melodramatic but I have a very strong sense of community and I'm damned if I'm going to let that go for dignity's sake - pisses me off more than anyone else, never mind 6A/LJ blatantly ignoring their responsibilities as a regulating body.

I'm sure everything I'm saying is horribly generic and has been said a million and one times over, and as I said I'm not the best-informed of ranters, but I do feel the need to get this out and over with, at least for the moment.

The comm I mentioned earlier, fandom_flies, is a comm dedicated to a huge migration of all fandom - not just individual fandoms, but the whole of fandom - over to GreatestJournal. I'm not sure about that, because LJ does have some good features, but...well, we'll see. If the DW/TW fandom shifts, chances are I might. It's the only fandom I'm really active in these days anyway - everywhere else I just lurk. In DW I actually post occasionally. WOWIE.

Ho hum. We'll see how this plays out, I guess.

Bad Wolf con report

Analgesic Turisas - Among Ancestors
Bad Wolf!

I've not really got time to write this right now - I've got maybe twenty minutes before I get kicked upstairs - but what the hell. I've been wanting to write this con report since Sunday. =D

OMFG. Bad Wolf was brilliant. We left home at 7:30am on Saturday, which is normal time for me during termtime, but in the holidays? Blergh! So, anyway, we listened to the Doctor Who soundtrack in the car - *geekgasm* - and the journey only took about an hour and a half, which is a blessing considering the floods. Ohhh, the floods. We'll get onto those later.

So, we get to the hotel, park the car, get our stuff, and find everyone milling around the entrance. Apparently, there's been a fire alarm go off, and everyone's been evacuated. Bloody hell. Thankfully, it didn't last long and we got inside and got registered soon enough.

So, into the main hall. The con had basically hijacked the whole hotel, which was pretty awesome - no interference from non-Whovians and we got a hugeass business suite for all the functions. Cue "amusing" intro video, and Paul the MC gives us a couple of jokes about the alarm. Lovely jubbly.

First panel: Eric Roberts, a.k.a. The Master from the TV movie. I did rather like the movie and I thought he was a good master - although, of course, not nearly as awesome as John Simm (<33) - but in person oh my god he is odious. Seriously. He's one of those...American actors, all big smiles and calling everyone "bro" or "doll" and urgh. False charisma and crowd-pleasing, and he wasn't very good at the whole interview thing. Kept flashing his eco-credentials and talking about his family. Pshaw.

Next panel: Carol Ann Roberts, who was - of course - Susan in the old series. Oh, she's lovely! And she's really, really tiny - about 5', of her own admission - and interviewed very well, giving wonderful stories about Bill Hartnell deliberately confusing "Fault Locator" with "Fornicator". Some interesting questions, about how the death of JFK affected them on - as it turned out - the first day of filming, and so on. Very good panel.

Third panel: Linda Clark, Amanda Lawrence and Gareth Roberts, otherwise known as Bloodtide, Doomfinger and The Bloke Who Wrote The Shakespeare Code. OMG I loved this panel! Gareth Roberts was really interesting - and I adore his writing - and Amanda and Linda were very sweet. It was very interesting to hear them talk about Rusty, and how people treat him, how he is very much Lord Of All Gallifrey, as it were. Lord President, I suppose. In the nicest possible way, of course, but still - his authority is absolute, but I suppose it would be, given that the show is very much his BAYBEE. Heh.

Didn't go to the third panel, because it was the Hyde Fundraisers and thus a bit boring. So we went to lunch - meatball Subway. Mmmm. - and the merch stalls. I got three autographed pictures from the autograph stall - Cypher from The Matrix, the Fifth Doctor and Tara from Buffy. Eeee! I will frame these and put them on my wall. Dad - oh GOD - got the new bloody Harry bloody Potter, which I absolutely refuse to touch. I've read the plot synopsis on Wikipedia and to be honest I don't give a shit beyond that. Her writing style is just so utterly juvenile and BLERGH. *rage*

Back down after lunch, and they were playing some cool animations, including a very clever one; a portmanteau of all the title sequences, from the very first once up to the most recent, blending together the music and the graphics into one continuous stream from past to present. It was masterfully done and I really hope I can find it on YouTube or something, I really liked it. =D

First panel after lunch was Owen Teale. Gareth Thomas pulled out, apparently, but oh my god Owen Teale was totally the best panel of the whole con! He was - *shudder* - Ewan Sherman The Creepy Cannibal Guy from Countrycide and oh my god he's actually an absolute dear. He told some wonderful stories about acting, including one about John Barrowman's reaction to him showing up all roughed-up and teeth-prosthetic'd. "I like a bit o' rough! Uh, but...not the teeth. >.<" He and the interviewer had a great vibe, and given that they made their way through a bottle of white wine over the course of the interview...
Anyway, great stuff. I'll see if I can find a transcript because he was just brilliant.

Next panel was Yasmin Bannerman. Apparently it's her first time doing a con, and she did look a little terrified. She played Jabe from the Forest of Cheem in End of the World, and DCI Kathy Swanson in They Keep Killing, and I must say she was lovely. And, um, really quite gorgeous. *ahem*
Nothing incredibly in-depth about the whole Who thing - although she did have some interesting insight about the prosthetics and costuming side of things, i.e. how her prosthetics went from "A little something on the hair" to "Full facial overhaul" - but she was still a dear to listen to. Aww. <3

Last panel of the day: Nick Briggs, in his role as part of Big Finish Audio Productions. I don't listen to the Big Finish plays - always meant to, never found the money - so it wasn't really my area of expertise but he's a very amusing speaker, so it was actually quite entertaining. Most of the audience questions were various people asking about the fates of their favourite non-Who BF plays, which was quite funny if completely off topic.

So, afterwards, we went for dinner, and - given that it was MY BIRTHDAY and everything - dad said I could have whatever I wanted, which was awesome. The restaurant was a carvery, and a very, VERY good one, and then I had a slice of Chocolate Truffle for pudding, which really reminded me of the Orgasm Cake from Matrix Reloaded. XDD
(I mean that in a somewhat literal sense. Dude, that was really fucking good cake.)

We went back to my room and watched Jeckyll, which was FANTASTIC - Jimmy Nesbitt was born to play that role, and of course the whole thing is written by Stephen Moffat, who wrote Blink and other shit-your-pants-scary Doctor Who episodes. So. Woooo.

Anyway, in the morning - no fire alarm, this time! - had a nice breakfast, got me face on, briefly got stuck in the lift with the Shakespeare Code witches and K-9 (aww! <33) and headed down to the show.

We're met with notices. Lalla Ward couldn't make it; she was stuck in the floods in Oxfordshire, the poor love. (Of course, she lives in New College - my dad's old college! - with Richard Dawkins - <3333333333333 - so I guess that's logical.) Gareth David-Lloyd hasn't shown up yet and there's no word from him. Bit worried, but we have faith he'll show up eventually. We hope. Please?

So, anyway, first panel of the day: Murray Melvin and Matt Rippy, a.k.a. Bilis Manger (*shudder*) and Real!Cap'n Jack. (<3333)
OMG. My second favourite panel, totally. They were amazing! Murray Melvin is - contrary to his character, I might add, who is a demon-worshipping creep - an absolute sweetheart, and Matt Rippy is lovely indeed. The first question he was asked - by the interviewer, no less! - was "Is John Barrowman a good snogger, then?", which had us all in fits. Well, it was certainly at the top of MY mind...XD
His response, by the way, was along the lines of "I don't kiss and tell" but, uh, we got the impression that He Certainly Is Very Much Oh Yes Really. And this led to a discussion of Very Awkward Sex Scenes, which was really funny. XD
It was wonderful listening to them, seriously - the contrast between the old and the new, the American and the British, the predominantly-theatre and the predominantly-TV. Wonderful, wonderful panel. Someone's put some pics of Matt up on LJ somewhere if you want to find 'em.

Next panel was Nick Briggs - again! - and Elisabeth Fost, who played an Auton in Rose and one of the Slitheen. She was interesting, although being such a minor part wasn't particularly Who-oriented. Nick Briggs really stole the show, this time in his role as Dalek and Cyberman voice-actor. It was BRILLIANT. He talked a lot about doing the Weakest Link special, and just how much of a cow Ann Robinson actually is, and how she made him flirt with her in Dalek voice, which is just creeeeeepy. And he also talked about, oh, getting cramps in his foot during shooting one time, except he was still talking into the Dalek mic, so out of the Dalek comes this "Ooh, argh, my FOOT!". Hee. XD

GDL...was a no-show, as you've probably figured. This was Very Disappointing but I think I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, seeing as half the damn country's underwater and a lot of mobile phone networks are out of action at the moment. There have been an awful lot of fans denouncing him as "unprofessional" and the like and claiming that he got smashed after the James Masters gig on Saturday and thus was too hung over to make it, but I have it from a good source - i.e. a girl in the same bar as he was that night - that he had a quiet drink with his girlfriend (is that still the Carys girl? I think so.) and left quite early. Nyerr. Anyway, I won't condemn him just yet. Still pretty emo, though.

So! Instead of watching what they had instead of his panel, which was some footage from a Blake's 7 con last year - not my fandom - dad and I went to the autographs room, where I got Mary Tamm's and Louise Jameson's autograph. OMFG! Mary complimented me on my eye makeup, which makes me ridiculously happy every time I think of it. Eeeee. I HAVE LEELA'S AUTOGRAPH OH MY GOD. I have such a ridiculously huge crush on her, it's daft. XD

Anyway, after that, went out for lunch - ended up in the Starbucks in Borders in the Bullring, after - FINALLY - getting Nanny Ogg's Cookbook and a Doctor Who book. Nice panini, headed back in time to catch the next panel, which was:

Mary Tamm herself! Romaaaaaaaana. Mm. She was lovely and very articulate and very interesting to listen to, and hearing her talk about Tom Baker and so on was very amusing. XD
I do wish Lalla had been there, because I'd have killed to get both of their autographs, and apparently they have a groovy double-act when they go to cons. But oh well, Mary was still lovely on her own.

Wasn't particularly interested in the next panel - Doctor Who Magazine, which is perennially juvenile and sort of irritating - so I went back to the merch stands, got a gorgeous picture from one of the art stands, of portrait pieces of each Doctor. Looovely. And the girl running it was cosplaying the Eighth Doctor! She was kind of cute, too. ;D
Also, there was a guy, obviously not a Torchwood fan, who picked up one of the prints - it was based off the Torchwood promo pics, of Jack in the centre, surrounded by headshots of the others - and he was like "Um, this is Torchwood, right? That's...John Barrowman..." and she was like "Yeah, and that's Gareth David-Lloyd, and that's Eve Myles...and I can't remember who the other two are." and I chipped in with "Burn Gorman and Naoko Mori! Um. *geekgeek*" XD

Last panel was Leela Herself, Louise Jameson. Oh, she was lovely. Also there was Clare Clifford, who was...a character in Earthshock, which I've never seen (more shame me, I guess). She was very nice - there was a wonderful moment when they were asked to describe their relative Doctor actors - Baker for Louise, Davidson for Clare - and Clare went first, said "Charming" with a rather amusing smile, and of course all eyes were on Louise because, well, knowing Tom...
"Complicated."

XD

Through the two days we'd noticed some characters hanging around, and eventually we figured out it was the Hyde Fundraisers - they'd brought costume actors of a Sycorax, two Scarecrows from Human Nature/Family of Blood, a retro Dalek, a retro Cyberman, two of the Droids from Girl in the Fireplace, an Ogron and a Exxilon. Very cool, although the Ogron told me I should read Harry Potter. >.<

Anyway, drove home quite nicely, got home in time for West Wing - woo! - had birthday cake. Yay!

I'll wait until the guestlist for Bad Wolf 2008 is released, but damn I want to go. XD

I've got another two gripes about the Donna Thing.

1) Another 21st centuary human girl. For fuck's SAKE! VARIETY PLZKTHX. I am so sick of these girls. At least she shouldn't be like Rose. Oh god, I hope she isn't. DDDX

2) This means Jack isn't special anymore! 'Cause, right, Jack was unique because he was the only companion ever to serve two separate terms. The Wikipedia time line I used to prove this seems to have disappeared - that's the problem with Wikipedia, it's so bloody impermenant - but he's the only companion in the actual series (as opposed to the spin-off media, which is - as we know - of dubious canonicity anyway) to return to the TARDIS after an extended period of no contact, in his case nearly two seasons. Mickey doesn't count because he was in contact with the TARDIS crew despite not actually being present, and neither does Sarah-Jane, because she never rode in the TARDIS again. But now Donna's coming back and Jack won't be special anymore. And that's sad. Because I like Jack and I don't like Donna - not just because she's - sigh - another one of Rusty's female protagonists, just because she's IRRITATING and I don't like Catherine Tate much anyway. Jack has character without being an obnoxious twat. Booooooh.

SILLY RUSTY. Way to lose contact with your fandom, dude.

Analgesic Kamelot - Lost and Damned
ASFGL. OMFG. *fail*

Yeah, sorry. Incoherent. But oh my GOD MASTER JACK DOCTOR MARTHA EVERYONE. Srsly.

You know, Imp!Doctor looked like Gollum. Just sayin'.

And the Master has done ONE thing that pissed me off - ONE! - and that was beating up his wife. I mean, dude, you just don't DO that. Especially if your wife's really, really hot. =D

Glowy Doctor! Yeah, there was a lot of WTF at that point. I think I get it but it was a bit Deus Ex Machina, yeah?

OHMYGOD JACK = FACE OF BOE?? My two favourite characters are THE SAME PERSON WTF.

At least this means he gets some closure - he actually gets to die. I suppose being billions of years old has worn out his flirting instinct, but - as someone on LJ said - I wouldn't put it past Jack to propegate an entire species by himself. <3

Woo, Action!Martha! Damn, she looked hot in those...whatever the fuck you call them. Military whatnots. Veeery flattering. =D

I love how the Doctor cries FAR more over the Master's death than Rose. Haha. I mean, it's pretty logical - he's known the Master since their days in the Academy, battled him through time and space, and they're the last of the Time Lords, y'know? He's gonna have more of a connection with him than some stupid chavvy blonde bint, isn't he?

Very slashy. Lovely stuff. =D

The way Jack said "Doctor" = SLASHIEST THING EVER Y/Y? =DDDDD

Bondage!Jack was rather awesome. Very, uh, gratuitous for the guy-lovers. Of which I certainly am not one, but I still lol'd at Dirty!Jack. Hee. Swede is gross. >.<
(Well, actually, it's quite nice when you mix it with mashed potato. But WHATEVER.)

Martha leaving? Honoes! I know she's not gone forever, because - aside from what was sad in-episode - Freema Agyeman (is that how you spell her name? I hope so, it's a very pretty name) has confirmed on her website that Martha will return on a part-time basis in S30. So that's okay. I just wonder who the new companion will be? Someone like Leela, I hope. Damn, I loved Leela. And not just because she was REALLY FUCKING GORGEOUS. <3

I still wonder what was going on with Lucy Saxon, y'know. In any case, wouldn't she have noticed the basic anatomical differences in her husband? I mean, the chameleon arch was non-functional at that point, so he'd have had a 15°C internal body temperature, not to mention the two hearts. Would she not have twigged there was SOMETHING wrong with that...?

I'm pretty sure it was her hand picking up his ring at the end, though. We all knew they couldn't/wouldn't kill the Master off permanently, because of COURSE they couldn't. He, the Daleks and the Cybermen are the biggest pullers of the whole show. But it does mean no more Simm!Master, which is a great shame. He was brilliant.

What else...?

TITANIC WTF. In any case, I thought the TARDIS was impenetrable? It's been canonically described as so - something about the armies of Atilla the Hun. Or Ghengis Khan. Or something?

Oh, on the Master's "I'm a Time Lord, it's my right" line - bullshit. The Time Lords took a vow of non-interference. That's the whole POINT. That's why the Doctor's a renegade - because he interferes LIEK WOAH.

Anyway. We do know the Master's real name. It's Koschei. Although that WAS established in the spin-off novels which are - as Wikipedia so often tells us - of dubious canonicity anyway. Whatever, it's a cool name.

I'm sick of people saying that Theta Sigma is the Doctor's real name. It's established REPEATEDLY in the Classic series (blah, I hate that name) that it was only a nickname. Grr. That's like people saying Moose is my birth name. XD (Although it WILL be my legal name, soon enough.)

Can I think of anything else to go on about...?

Ooh, yes, fic idea. What iiiiif, during the Master's REIGN OF TERROR!!!1111oneleven, he finds Ianto, brings him up to the Valiant to, uh, torment Jack by brutally murdering him in front of the poor sod?
Sounds like a very Master thing to do, really. God, I'm so mean to Ianto in my fics. D'aww. Poor woobie. XDD

I really want a King Ianto's Coffee Club shit. I've got a Vote Saxon shirt (<333333) so I might as well get one for the good guys, too. I think Hannah B wrote the motto - Everlasting Peace and Damn Fine Coffee - on my shirt on the last day o' school, but I'm hardly going to WEAR that, am I?

(Can't let my parents see it, either. It's got DYKE in big letters on it, not to mention the Sexy Bra and other assorted obscenities. <3 XD)

Anyhoo. Lunch in a couple of minutes, I need to actually, y'know, get some clothes on. Haha.

I want a laser screwdriver. :(

Analgesic Bal-Sagoth - In Search of the Lost Cities of Antarctica
1. If you were going to remake a movie, what would it be and who would you cast in the roles?
LORD OF THE RINGS my god those movies were a disaster. A DISASTER.
I don't know if I could do much - MUCH - better but at least I'd, y'know, not make idiotic and completely unjustifiable decisions eg. RE: Elves at Helm's Deep (on that note, WHAT ARE YOU FUCKING SMOKING, Peter Jackson?)
Let's see.
See, I don't know any good actors.
Liv Tyler was good as Arwen. I love Liv Tyler anyway (no, not just because of her father!) and anyway, Arwen doesn't have to do much more than sit around and mope prettily. So that's alright then.
Jack Davenport would have to be in it SOMEWHERE. Maybe as Glorfindel?
I liked Cate Blanchett as Galadriel. Hugo Weaving was a great Elrond, and Christopher Lee and Ian McKellen were wonderful as Saruman and Gandalf respectively. Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Viggo Mortenstein and Sean Astin all failed. Ugh.
David Wenham would have made a very good Faramir had he a) dyed his hair and b) not had such a warped, shitty version of the part given to him.
Miranda Otto made a good Éowyn, as did Karl Urban Éomer. They'd be even better if they could, y'know, pronounce their damn names properly.
Gollum was all but perfect. No gripes there.
I don't know. I don't watch movies! Oh, Sean Bean was a decent Boromir, but for the horrible scripting. I quite like him, actually.
Huh. I don't know any actors. PHAIL.

2. If you could turn a book into a movie, what would it be and who would you cast in the roles?
Uhhh.

Penny Arcade...?

Oh, god. XD

Maybe a Discworld book. I was actually rather pleased with the Hogfather adaptation - Marc Warren was a little OTT, but the rest of the cast were rather marvelous, even though they fucked up the Auditors (THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE IDENTICAL THAT'S THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT) (Oh, on that note - BILIOUS FTW OMGZ. <33333333333). So maybe...ooooh! I can see Feet of Clay translating quite well. I wonder who'd play Vetinari? Chrisopher Lee would be quite marvellous. I'd love Vincent Price as Dragon King of Arms, but, uh, without some black magic...
Dunno who'd be Vimes. Who's bitter and old enough...?
For Angua...maybe Carrie Anne Moss? In a blonde wig, I guess.
Dunno about Carrot.
See, that's my problem. I don't know any actors, and I don't know anything about movies. XDD

3. If you were going to turn a video game into a movie, what would it be? Would it be animated or live-action?
GOLDEN SUN OMG YES.
That would be a BRILLIANT movie.
With Piers modelled on David Tennant, Mia on Liv Tyler and Kraden on Derek Jacobi. Fuck yes.
It'd have to be anime, I think. But really, REALLY good anime.
Ohhhhhhh. <3333

4. You're going to turn a book into a TV series. What is it? Why would it make a good TV show?
Hunh. All the manga I can think of has already been televised...wait, no!
FAKE!
They only made on OVA of that, and that was only of volume 2. A Fake anime would be FANTASTIC and it'd appeal to both the action market - police! Guns! Explosives in flower vases! - and the yaoi fangirls. OH YEAH.

5. Do you generally prefer the movie versions or the novel versions of works?
Novels. Of course. Movie versions usually suck. (*cough*LORDOFTHERINGS*cough*)

I have - maybe, MAYBE - an idea for a El Laberinto Del Fauno femmeslash fic. Mercedes/Carmen, post-movie. The basic idea is that Mercedes is actually Moanna's maid, who followed her into the human world and waited in the mill for her. When Mercedes dies - and I'm pretty sure that's going to be at the hands of the next Captain Franco sends to the area - she will, of course, go back to the Underworld, where HOT LESBIAN SEX will prevail.

OF COURSE.

You can tell I wrote it 'cause there's lesbians. =DDDD

I suddenly feel like Josh Lesnick, and that's...a wee bit worrying.

I'm not as awesome as him, though. D'oh. D=

So. What else? Oh, I saw Dr Wood - is that his name? I think it is - the other day, and I haven't had a single attack since I saw him last - which is AMAZING AND WONDERFUL AND YAAAAY! - so he says we should half my medication dose. I'll do so after my last exam, just to be sure, and I've got some emergency meds in the bathroom cabinet in case I have an attack.

I'm getting used to walking with the cane. It's a little awkward, only having one hand - I'm used to being able to, I dunno, re-adjust my bag strap or whatever whilst I'm walking, and having actually to stop, hook my cane on my wrist and do so is quite annoying. And it makes carrying breakfast from the kitchen to the office difficult, too - what do you do with a glass AND a plate AND a cane, especially since I really can NOT walk without the thing in the mornings. Bad knee. BAD.

Carri came over last night. It was one of those last-minute things, where she phoned up and we were like "OKAY COME OVER RIGHT NOW." I like it when that happens because, uh, she doesn't have a chance to decide she hates me again and pull out.
No details, but suffice to say I'm really fucking tired, and really fucking happy.

I got Lorn a Doctor Who birthday card that says You Are 6 Today. I think she'll appreciate it. XDD

HAHA MY AC:WW TOWN IS PERFECT. Now I've just got to keep it that way. For fifteen days.

...

BOLLOCKS.

Haha. But I'm A Cheerleader got a rating somewhere in the thirties on RottenTomatoes. That doesn't surprise me, because a movie like that gets BLASTED as soon as you try to take it seriously/intellectually. It's still one of my favourite movies, on account of being AWESOME, and I do tire of the - quite often straight - people who say that one should never make light of the horrors of "gay rehab", as it is wonderfully named in the movie.

This, my friends, is bollocks. The whole concept, the whole idea that one can somehow change someone's sexuality by enforcing the fulfilment of sterotypical heteronormative gender roles is so ridiculous that, to be honest, you have to laugh. Unless you're one of the kids in these places, in which case BREAK OUT THE LOCKPICKS.

One review said that "Any self-respecting lesbian should rear up in horror at [this movie]."

Well, shit. I mean, I've obviously lost the right to call myself a self-respecting dyke if I like an unashamedly trashy and ACTUALLY FUNNY movie about a real-life subject that is so absurd as to be hilarious when in a fictional setting?

I'd like to make the point now that the person saying this was a straight bloke, who OF COURSE would know EXACTLY what "self-respecting lebians" should and should not do.

Besides. THERE ARE LESBIANS. I thought these people would have learned by now. LESBIANS MAKE EVERYTHING BETTER.

SERIOUSLY, people. GET A CLUE. *eyeroll*

I've got to go in...ten minutes. Just enough time to expess my sincere - well, mostly - guilt over my abandoning of Bal-Sagoth over these past couple of weeks. Last week, Last.fm told me I'd listened to THREE TIMES as much Ensiferum as I did Bal-Sagoth.

My gods. That's AWFUL.

It's all this new music I've gotten. I love the great Gods of War as much as I ever did, but...I've just not had time to listen to them.

Right?

RIGHT?!

Haha, no, seriously. I LOVE YOU LORD BYRON. <333333333

*ahem*

Yeah, well, fuck it. I have muffins. =D

Oooooh my gooood!

James Masters has been confirmed as appearing in Torchwood season 2.

OH MY GOD.

I admit, most (if not all) of my James Masters experience was/is Buffy, because I HATED Angel and I don't even know what else he's been in, for chrissake. But I loved him as Spike - and not just because he's my favourite character - and oh my GOD can you IMAGINE the banter between him and Jack?

Fuck yes. <3

(I'll write something less, uh, fandom-y later. Swear. Maybe.)

Analgesic The Wombats - The Baa Baa Song
Hokay, so.

We all know I hate Gwen Cooper. I mean, it's pretty difficult to find one of Good Ol' Russel T's female protagonists who I don't hate, actually, because they tend to be whiny stupid cows. And ugly, to boot. His secondary characters, however...(*cough*Suzie*cough*Tosh*cough*Mary*cough*) are made of awesome and win.

But something really pissed me off today - and if you've seen me pissed off about fandom, you KNOW how pissed off I can get - and I wanted to bitch about it. In my sad, pathetic tea-boy wet dreams blog which no-one reads.

SEE WUT I DID THAR?

*ahem*

So the Radio Times came today. We get it on subscription - well, it's cheaper and easier than actually going to the shop to buy it - and there is, of course, an interview with John Barrowman (he of Awesome and Win) about Jack's impending return - insert fangirl sqeeing here.

Most of the interview was about Jack as a character, of course, because no-one really cares about actors (except us Gareth David-Lloyd fangirls, of course. Heh, heh, hehh...).

Let's have a quote:

Who will Jack miss most from the Torchwood team?
If you're talking personal, Gwen, because he can talk to her. He's teh only one she talks to and they have a relationship that he has with none of the others.

Wait. Wait, what? Gwen is - well, actually, she very much isn't - all very well and good but she's not the one Jack's sleeping with. Okay, so maybe he's sort of obliged to pimp her, as she's the protagonista - *hairrip* - but dear god it's not like she probably even understands half of what he says!

We've had so little canonical evidence of this 'special relationship' - past the first few episodes, there really isn't much of a Jack/Gwen vibe, actually. That sort of surprised me, because after the - brief - kiss in Day One I was very much expecting a long, irritating, drawn-out romance. Instead, we had Stopwatch!Flirting, which was MUCH better.

But, no, really. I see no reason Jack can't talk to Ianto - hey, look, the whole post's been about this character and I've only mentioned his actual name just now! - about...well, whatever he talks to Gwen about. Ianto was just as distraught over Jack's death as Gwen was - and in a considerably less irritating/stalkerish way. He's known Ianto longer, and even if the whole Cyberwoman thing sort of fucked things up for a while, it's obvious that Ianto's regained Jack's trust, even by They Keep Killing - you do not have vaguely kinky sex with someone who you don't trust. Srsly.

And it's not like Jack kissed Gwen when he did his Jesus impression, did he? HMM?!

Sorry, yeah, I know, I sound like even more of a retarded fangirl than usual. But this has gotten my Jack/Ianto-shipping back up, and I really REALLY hope they're not going to abandon the Jack/Ianto plotline in Season 2. That's my big worry, actually, both in Doctor Who Season 29 - LESS THAN A WEEK TO GO OMG - and Torchwood Season 2 - that, for Torchwood, the move to BBC2 will tone down Our Rusty's (Yes, we honestly do call him that. WE LOVE HIM THAT MUCH) fantastic Gay Agenda (I mean, in how many BBC shows do you get sexy lesbian alien serial killers? SERIOUSLY. At least until I start writing 'em. ;)) and that the beautiful Jack/Doctor plotline running through Doctor Who Season 27 and Torchwood Season 1 will be abrubtly cut short as Jack metamorphoses - and, no, really, this is confirmed by JB himself in the very same interview - from the angsty, angry Jack we know and - ostensibly - love from Torchwood into pretty much the same Jack we knew in Doctor Who Season 27.

That, there, is another WTF. Just because he's back on the TARDIS, just because he's found the Doctor again, does NOT mean he's not still got his fair share of angst to hand out. He's immortal. He was left for dead on the Game Station, surrounded by Dalek dust and corpses. He was ABANDONED by the two people he probably cared for most in the Universe. I refuse to believe that he can just switch - like a switchy thing! *hemhem* - back to Flirt-with-everyone-and-never-angst-EVAR Jack.

Nngh.

We'll have to see, I suppose. Obviously JB can't reveal as much as the fangirls want him to, having been sworn to secrecy and all that.

Oh, that reminds me - before Cyberwoman, there was all this speculation about Ianto's mysterious partner - which had been sourced, AGAIN, from a Radio Times interview. It was quite funny, actually, because this was before the episode preview had come out - in fact, the episode was still officially called The Trouble With Lisa (and you can tell I've been in this fandom a long time, can't you?) and we were wondering, well, why the hell CAN'T he say anything about it? IS IT A GUY?! - yes, that really was our most pressing concern. Heh.

Aww. I do feel sorry for Lisa, partly because of her ridiculous - RIDICULOUS, I SAY - costume, but mostly because she did have a shitty deal, didn't she?

Costume-wise, though; Even as a dyke - and, yes, I really DID appreciate the metal bikini thing, and I can happily - gaily! *snigger* - admit to that - I can probably say I'd rather she had a more, y'know, realistic costume. The Cybermen don't have sex drives. No, really. Someone ranted about this on canon_rants before, ages ago, but still - come ON. High-heeled shoes?

Blegh.

I hate heels. And I don't think the Cybermen think they're particularly practical, either.

Oh, bollocks to this. I'm done. MOOSE THE CRIPPLE FANGIRL OUT.

O LOOK ANOTHER ONE. Actually, I haven't done any memes in a while because I haven't seen any. Very odd.

So, the idea is that you put your iTunes - or whatever - on shuffle and write drabbles based on the titles of the first five songs that come up. Which I've done. I don't know if you're supposed to write 'em in one fandom or not but I've done five different ones so BOO SUCKS TO YOU, I suppose.

Anyway.

I quite like some of these. I like the Torchwood one and the Good Omens one, and I quite like the Angel Sanctuary one and Discworld one. I don't like the Metalocalypse one, because when you get Manowar AND Metalocalypse you HAVE to write funny. And I can't write funny to save my life. But oh well.

Can't believe I didn't get one extreme metal band in the whole thing, though. Very disappointed. D=

Analgesic Bal-Sagoth - When Rides the Scion of the Storms
So I haven't updated in ages.

Not quite sure why. Haven't had much to say, but I've had plenty of time to say it in.

Updates:

Coursework is over! For good! I got my final marks - well, as final as they get before they're moderated - for ICT and Textiles. 98 out of 104 for Textiles, 137 out of 157 for ICT. So I'm pretty happy about that.

First exams tomorrow. RE Ethics and Spanish Listening. Not fun. I haven't really revised as much as I should have. Okay, fine, I haven't revised NEARLY as much as I should have but then again I got an A in my mock without revising AT ALL for RE. And I'll have a couple of hours between the two to revise for Spanish Listening, which is the easy Spanish exam anyway. So it could be worse. I'll revise in a bit, and on the bus in the morning.

What else...?

I might be getting an external hard drive! I've been lusting after one for a while, because I've only got 100Gb on this computer and I've barely got any of THAT left, even using both drives. The EHD I want is 250Gb, sexy as fuck, and 70 quid. I'm thinking about using some of the money from the savings account - since that money's gonna go on the laptop anyway, I might as well get the EHD and then get a laptop without the vast stores of memory I'd need otherwise. Then I can set up a wireless network and fileshare between the two. Very useful.

Which reminds me - I need to get a wireless adapter for my desktop, because being four years old it doesn't have one. I need a new USB hub, too, since the old one's only got four ports on it and I'll need at least two more soon.

Got Saiyuki Reload 7 the other day. Eeee. Most Gojyo/Hakkai moment EVER and seriously that's saying quite a lot. Aww, I love Gojyo. He's very sweet, really. I mean, for a guy. Hakkai is just fucking creepy but in a vaguely awesome way so THAT'S ALL ALRIGHT THEN.

I posted to queer_rage about my dad's 'there are too many gay people on Torchwood!' whining. Two nice comments since, both from people within the fandom - which is pretty predictable, I guess. I think I recognize one of them from torchwoodcoffee or maybe tw_archives but I can't remember that well. All the comms for one fandom tend to sort of blend into one for me, except at_the_ritz I guess because that's a little different from the others. And inthesestones, which is just MADE OF PURE AWESOME.

I have a horrible cold. Or, rather, the aftermath of a horrible cold, which means a runny nose and no singing voice. And not much of a talking voice either, for that matter. Blegh.
I hate not being able to sing. I'm so used to singing along ALL THE TIME it's really jarring suddenly not to be able to. I mean, I've got maybe an octave range at the moment and it's pretty low. FUCKING USELESS. I really hate this.

Eurovision was funny. Ukraine were AWESOME no matter what anyone else says. TIMMY MALLET IN TINFOIL. I love how no-one remembers Timmy Mallet except me. XD
The Serbian entry was nice. There's a lot of debate about whether Marija Šerifović is gay or not, and I've heard conflicting articles and rumours. My gaydar started screaming the moment I saw her but that might just be wishful thinking. I did see someone in the crowd waving a rainbow flag, though.

Oh, also! I HAVE A WEBSITE! Wahey. It's recs, the Comic, some shit about me, and some of my fic (which I haven't put up yet). The 'journal' link links back to here, though. I think this probably means I won't be updating the Reclist on my journal anymore - I'll just update the one on the site.

I have new pills, by the way. Well, sort of. I'm still on the Omeprazole regularly, but Dr Wood got me some new stuff...can't remember what it's called, but it's for if I have an attack - I couldn't take the Kolanticon gel in conjunction with the Omeprazole but this stuff should work, so we'll see. It's mostly in case I have an attack the day I have an exam - since I can't miss an exam, but I can't take it if I'm in abdominal agony, I need pills. Voila.
Hope they work. If they don't I guess I'll just have to tip some Codine down my throat and hope for the best. Ignoring the liver damage, I suppose.

Can't wait 'til bloody Saturday. I've not got any exams on Friday so it's clean sailing from tomorrow onwards. I NEED MY DOCTOR. I can't believe they postponed it because of fucking EUROVISION. I mean, it's fun, but it's nowhere near important enough to usurp Doctor Who. (Is anything?)

I mean, I really only watched it because Lordi were introducing it. And because Apocalyptica were the interval act. YAY APOCALYPTICA. They are brilliant, of course. I was so fucking pissed off, though - bloody Terry bloody Wogan TALKED OVER THEM. He was just going on and on about the circus act and I couldn't hear a fucking note from those cellos. I was SO PISSED OFF. I hate Terry Wogan. D<

Oooh, I got Gamma Ray's No World Order! album. It's AWESOME. I'd had a few songs off it before - Dethrone Tyranny, The Heart of the Unicorn, Damn the Machine, plus a couple of others - but it's such a fantastic album! I mean, seriously. I've been waking up to it for the past week or so. Love, love, love.

Ahahah, JERRY FALWELL'S DEAD. Now, itainohime may have respect for the dead, but I bloody don't. DING DONG, THE WITCH IS DEAD. YAY.
Sorry - actually, no, I'm not - but he was a fucking bastard and I hope he suffered. He deserved it.

On that note - ha ha - Uncle Martin's staying. No, I don't think he deserves to die - of course not! - but he's a Republican and isn't happy that Falwell's dead. So...
Eww, Republicans. NO ME GUSTAN.

Anyway. I really need to go revise.

Blegh.

Analgesic Bal-Sagoth - Invocations Beyond The Outer-World Night
I'm really enjoying my new journal. I mean, seriously, not being mortified whenever I look at my screenname is a wonderful feeling. Plus, I love the new theme. I'm sure I'll get sick of it eventually, but I can always change it again. =3

So I've updated the reclist, AGAIN. I bookmarked something like half a dozen fics the other day - a huge pile of brilliant fic suddenly arrived at once - so I wanted to get them on the list. I'm really thinking of pimping it out to some communities, as long as it's not against the rules. I might post a couple of my own fics along with it, to qualify it as a proper post. I'd love to get some feedback, see if people have other fics they'd like to rec.

I do hope no authors have a problem with me reccing their stuff. Some people say you should ask before you rec, but then this is an ongoing list and I'm sure Lady Paperclip - who's every fic, pretty much, gets recced - and others like her would get really sick of my simpering 'Can I rec your fic? *gigglesnort*' mating call.

Yeeeeeah.

So, Bal-Sagoth! Haha, like I ever talk about anything else. Got The Chthonic Chronicles today, and I got The Power Comic - FUCKING FINALLY - a couple of weeks ago (so I've probably posted about that already, so whatever). All six! Finally! And that's a little depressing because chances are there aren't going to be any more - what with Hatheg-Kla on the first album and Return to Hatheg-Kla on the last, making is a complete circle, and the constant references to it as a 'hexology'. Byron's saying maybe there'll be a graphic novel, which would be BRILLIANT - the characters and stories are so rich, they're ACHING to be applied to a visual arts medium, and graphic novels would be a really good way of doing it. I want to see how Byron envisions Joachim Blokk. <33
(Yes, I do latch onto the minor characters, don't I? But he was the first Bal-Sagoth character I ever sketched, and anyway; he has a katana. That makes him cool, MMKAY
?!)

Sooo. What else has happened, recently? OH YEAH I got my final ICT coursework grade! I got 137 out of 157, which is 87%, which is an A*, which is FUCKING BRILLIANT, considering I totally wasn't expecting to get a decent grade. I got full marks on the Key Skills exam last year (which means I don't have to take it again this year - YAY), so I've got 20% left in the last exam, which is also the most worrying. Thing is, he hasn't taught us any of what we need to know for that, and doing some practice papers recently I've been completely stuck. Quite worrying. But still, I only need to get...something like half marks on that still to get an A* for my final grade, so that's okay.

Ahahah, prom is going to SUCK, but there will also be elements of EXTREME AWESOME. My cummerbund and bow tie came today, I'm borrowing my dad's morning jacket, I've ordered a top hat - a collapsible one! - from eBay, and we're going shopping for trousers and a shirt on Sunday, and I'm wearing my high-heeled boots (which I haven't worn in ages - I hope they still fit. Should do.)
Robin and I are buying each other's corsages, which'll be nice. Not going to the afterparty - it'll be full of all the stupid cunts I hate, and I don't need to get wasted to have a nice night, so I have no desire whatsoever to go.
Getting my hair cut this Thursday (which reminds me - I need to get some of that Maths homework done on Wednesday otherwise I'm royally fucked). Only getting rid of the split ends, really - I don't want to cut it too short because I love having incredibly long hair. XD

Lorn's bringing Dan, apparently, and since Lorn, Hana K and I are the only people he knows, it'll be interesting. He's very sweet, though, although the bastard had better not steal my fucking hat again.

Rob and Robin broke up - Robin, apparently, didn't feel the need to tell me - so Rin's taking some bloke called Robert. It's all really stupid, to be honest, because she's so indecisive she'll break up with him in a couple of weeks anyway. BESIDES, the whole issue of the prom is supremely idiotic because isn't it just an excuse for all the prettyprettythinrich girls to buy ridiculously expensive dresses - correction: to get their parents to buy them ridiculously expensive dresses - and show off their ugly boyfriends? I believe Kara now has FOUR dresses, because she and Harriet Kurylec got the same Ted Baker one - ohhh, how I loathe designer labels! - and then she and someone else got the same colour red and it's so STUPID. I'm going to be the only girl in a tux and I GUARANTEE I will look cooler - not more attractive, 'cause, well, this is ME, but still COOLER - than 90% of the airheaded idiots there.

Apparently a load of them are skipping school on that Friday, just so they can get ready. HONESTLY. That's really just pathetic, isn't it?

Oh, and Fi's not going. I mean, she was never going to, and I respect that - she's stuck to her guns, despite everyone trying to persuade her otherwise, which I didn't manage. But still, it would be a lot more awesome with her there, and she'd look fantastic, I bet. Oh well.

It's pretty late and I don't have much else to say, I suppose. I'm getting the itch to look for some Sandman fic but the books are so...dear to me, I guess, I don't want to ruin them with shitty fanfic. I might just stick with recs, to be honest.

Oh, also! Carri's coming over on Sunday - and Monday's a Bank Holiday, so she's staying over - and we're gonna watch all those videos that we've been saying, y'know, 'Oh, you have to see this movie!' and so on. So it'll be The History Boys, The Animatrix, Interstella 5555, Pan's Labryinth, and whatever else we can fit in, I guess. Plus an episdode of The West Wing, because I desparately want her to see it, and also because it's on on Sunday night and there is no way in HELL I am missing it. <33

Okay, so I think I've officially run out of things to say now. Except that I've ordered a load of things from Amazon and so on - FMA volume 5, Death Note volume 11, Gamma Ray's 'No World Order!', and an AWESOME windowsticker that says "Have you hugged a moose today?" YAY

Oooh, Toma just emailed me! I MUST REPLY.

Haha, fail, Moose.

G'night, dolls.

Analgesic Keep of Kalessin - Crown of the Kings
So, my dad's been going on about how there are 'too many gay people' in Torchwood (and, I suppose, by extention, in the world in general.). Now, as far as I'm concerned, there can't be enough gay people in Torchwood (or anywhere), and given the absolute dearth of good canon - or otherwise - femmeslash in other fandoms, I'm obscenely joyful to find some here. ALIEN LESBIANS FTW.

But, inspired by queer_rage (which is a bloody awesome LJ comm, btw), and my own fandom-induced insanity, I've decided to go through EVERY canon pairing in Torchwood and then calculate the imbalance between gay and straight, thus proving that there are considerably more straight (booh!) couples in the show.

Episode-by-episode, and this is going to take fucking forever, isn't it? Howell.
By canon, by the way, I mean a pairing where there is definitely either proper flirting, a proven attraction on either side, or actual nookie going on. Righty-ho.

Episode One - Everything Changes
Gwen/Rhys - Het
Owen/Linda - Het
Owen/Conlin - Gay
Linda/Conlin - Het
Jack/Ianto - Gay

Episode Two - Day One
Carys/Gwen - Gay
Carys/Owen - Het
Carys/The other ten guys or so she kills - Het x 10
Carys/Jack - Het

Episode Three - Ghost Machine
Ed/Lizzie - Het

Episode Four - Cyberwoman
Ianto/Lisa - Het
Gwen/Owen - Het

Episode Five - Small Worlds
Jack/Estelle - Het
Jasmine's mother/Jasmine's stepfather - Het
The creepy paedo guy/Jasmine - Het

Episode Six - Countrycide
Ewan the Cannibal/Helen the Cannibal - Het

Episode Seven - Greeks Bearing Gifts
Tosh/Owen - Het
Tosh/Mary - Gay
Mary/The Noncy Whore-hating Soldier - Het
Neil/Carol - Het
Carol/Lawrence - Het

Episode Eight - They Keep Killing
Suzie/Owen - Het
Jack/Detective Kathy - Het
Suzie/Gwen - Gay

Episode Nine - Random Shoes
Eugene/Gwen - Het

Episode Ten - Out of Time
Diane/Owen - Het

Episode Eleven - Combat

Episode Twelve - Captain Jack Harkness
Real!Jack/Jack - Gay
Real!Jack/Nancy - Het

Episode Thirteen - End of Days
Gwen/Jack - Het

That's all the ones I can think of, off the top of my head.
Let's total 'em up, shall we?

Het total - 32 - 84%
Gay total - 6 - 16%

Well then.

MOOSE WINS.

(There should still be more lesbians. =D)
